He notes that: "I actually worked on Mr Gately for quite a while, but I just did not get him right. He's a tough one in more than one way. Originally I had planned for him to be lying in a hospital bed, towering above them all. Maybe one day I revisit it and add some more characters. But you're absolutely right, he should be in there, unfortunately he isn't. My bad."<br />Marty Fugatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05077693961075517845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-345052541839184472.post-65168231200727387212016-03-21T11:03:10.108-07:002016-03-21T11:03:10.108-07:00I don't know if I could summarize IJ anywhere ...I don't know if I could summarize IJ anywhere near as neatly as you do here brother, and I commend you for even trying. I like your take of basically 3 novels loosely woven together. To be honest, I am guilty of simply ignoring most of the SF themes. To me, at least, the book is all about Gately's heroism, the rehab center, and the PGOAT. Could be just my own filter. I also think his best writing is around the rehab center, AA meetings, and [spoiler] Gately's drug orgy at the end.<br /><br />But one example of this summary failing to get all the toothpaste back into the tube is that you do not even mention Himself's filmography, buried deep in the copious footnotes. I found I had the filmography bookmarked while I read, and found it a precious map into the stories' interwoven themes. Plus; bonus fun with films like Blood Sister: One Tough Nun which the author riffs on for like twenty pages.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15222332318583476883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-345052541839184472.post-73369654071530322062016-03-21T10:02:16.039-07:002016-03-21T10:02:16.039-07:00Is that your drawing in the upper right corner? Is that your drawing in the upper right corner?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15222332318583476883noreply@blogger.com
