Sweet Reason

You can’t convince an irrational person with a rational argument.
The irrational person says “2+2=5.”
You say, “2+2=4.”
The irrational person isn’t thinking, “Wow, I’d better check my math.”
If they’re more powerful than you, they’re thinking, “You made me look bad. Now I must crush you to jelly.”
If they’re less powerful, they’re thinking, “Agree with powerful person! Don’t make powerful person mad!”
If they belong to a group that believes “2+2=5,” they’re thinking, “You’re the enemy! You’re one of those 2+2=4 people!”
If they belong to a group that believes “2+2=4,” they’re thinking, “You’re a friend! You’re one of those 2+2=4 people!”
And that sort of covers everybody. 99.99% of the human race operates on that level.
The other .01% is just as irrational, but they know it.
If you’re a nerd who was raised to believe in the power of reason, this is depressing as hell.
If you're not, you want to punch me in the nose.
Because I just said I'm better than you.
